How To Make Beaded Paper Butterflies

A straightforward activity that even children may do is construct accordion-fold paper butterflies. Make these out of shiny scrapbook paper or embellish them with lovely beads to liven them up. For a small girl’s bedroom or nursery, these butterflies make incredibly adorable and reasonably priced wall art. Plus, they’d look fantastic during a spring party!

Are you prepared to take the plunge and create your own handmade paper butterflies?

Materials Needed:

  • scrapbook paper
  • assorted beads
  • craft wire (thin enough to be easily bendable. I used 24 gauge)
  • scissors
  • Paper scorer (optional, but it sure makes the project easier!)

Start by cutting your scrapbook paper into the shape of a curving butterfly wing. Cut one side, then transfer the extra paper scraps to the other side, trace, and cut again to make sure the two sides are symmetrical. Ah-ha! perfectly symmetrical cuts that don’t require the paper to be folded in half.

Score 1/2 inch parallel lines across the entire paper.

Accordion fold the scores so you end up with this:

Tightly wrap the wire around the center, pinching it together. Leave two long wire ends protruding from the top. The antennae will be these. Use beads if you’d like.
